A Little Bit About…Diane von Fürstenberg

Diane von FurstenbergFashion Designer Diane von Fürstenberg was born in Brussels, Belgium. She studied Economics at the University of Geneva, Switzerland, where she met Austro-Italian Prince Egon von Fürstenberg . They married and moved to New York, where son Alexandre and daughter Tatiana were bom. Von Fürstenberg began her design career with a simple motto, “Feel like a woman. Wear a dress.”  She is best known for introducing the knitted jersey “wrap dress” in 1973, an example of which, due to its important influence on women’s fashion, is in the collection of the Costume Institute of the Metropolitan Museum of Art.  Today, the children are grown, she and Prince Egon are divorced, and von Fürstenberg runs the New York-based design and marketing studio bearing her name. Splitting her time between homes in Connecticut, New York, Paris, and the Bahamas, von Furstenberg is always on the go, gathering inspiration for ventures as eclectic as she is. The famous socialite and entrepreneur was raised in a well-to-do Jewish family. Her Greek mother, Liliane Nahmias, was a Holocaust survivor.2007 Fashion Week Today, she is still famous for her beautiful geometric patterns and her wrap-dresses.
